The Wilkes name is well known in Bergen for the family's popular delicatessens. The first opened in Fair Lawn in 1938,
Frank and Ruth Wilkes, ran a small grocery store assisted by their three children, Howard, Charles and Ruth. When they retired, Howard took over the Fair Lawn store and also purchased the Glen Avenue store in 1961. Charles, eventually took
over the Ridgewood location. The original Fair Lawn store is gone, but the tiny Glen Avenue store – the Wilkes Family Delicatessen
– is still going strong in its 60th year.
Curt Wilkes and wife, Jennifer, now have owned and run this store for the past 30 years. Curt entered the business right
after high school and was trained by his father, Charles and his older brother, Barry. He quickly became the manager, and then the owner in the years that followed. Everything is homemade by Curt and his trusted staff.
Curt prides himself on putting out a quality product in the traditions that were handed down to him from his
grandparents and his father. Wilkes Deli is a staple in the Bergen County area, and it’s reputation for quality and great service is why. Come in and see why we are still going strong for 60 years!
